Wooden Pickle Records artist Allen Ramsey’s 2004 self-titled debut CD proves that, for Allen, it’s all about making and playing music…..good music! His songwriting and gravelly vocal combined with superb production create an outstanding collection of music that show Allen for exactly what he is. Those who have seen him live will no doubt agree.  This 2004 release, re-released on BHP Recordings, includes all original material written or co-written by Ramsey. The CD begins with “Be That Way Again” a torch song where Ramsey laments “maybe this is just a phase….God I hope it’s just a phase” about a declining relationship. The Traveling Wilbury-style “Happy” intertwines sarcasm with a straight-ahead groove and rocking guitars. Ramsey’s lyrics take you to places we’ve all been, and he belts it out in a way that lets you know he’s singing about things we’ve all experienced. The CD is tastefully filled with undertones of steel guitar, mandolin, and dobro that reflect Ramsey’s roots and musical influences. The collection of songs includes several beer drinking, bar sing-alongs such as “Tear In My Eye” and “Drunk Again”, but the he shows his story-telling skills in “No Other Way (Farm Song)” about a farmer forced into smuggling marijuana to save his farm.  This album from Allen Ramsey proves that he is an artist to enjoy for a long time. So, keep it on your playlists and surprise your friends with Allen’s cool music.
